Butte Soil Regeneration

Butte, MT
2018

At the beginning of the 20th Century, the booming mining town of Butte Montana had over 100 000 residents. Today that number is about 35 000. The point of this project is to help revitalize the urban ecology of Butte that has over time been desecrated by various mining practices. An issue in Uptown Butte is the scarcity of public parks, and an issue with the region as a whole is the lack of a healthy topsoil layer to promote more ecological development. A way that I identified to combat this and improve the uptown area of Butte is to create a public park above a compost facility that could help to provide usable soil to the region and remotely improve the ecology of the city and its surrounding area.
