Paradise, CA
2019
After the devastating Camp Fire of 2018 that destroyed most of the town, the goal of this project was to rebuild Paradise, CA with an interconnected community approach to multi-family housing. By creating a separation of the forest and the built environment, the wildfire defensibility is increased, as is the overall care for the spaces. The community would take pride in their shared green spaces, communally share the maintenance, and also the benefits. The primary design of the site is based on surrounding the community green spaces with the units, giving each unit a north and south face, as well as one face toward the community spaces and one towards the external vehicular circulation. The non vehicular circulation of the site is created from an extension of the existing Paradise Memorial Trail.
